Battlefield Guide Field Modules

'Time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted...'A well known military
maxim that is as relevant to an aspiring battlefield guide as it is to the soldier on the battlefield.

We believe, that before considering employment in the battlefield tour industry it is essential to invest some time in gaining an understanding of the industry before committing to a new career as a battlefield guide.

These courses are designed to enable our clients to make an informed decision on whether or not working as a battlefield guide will suit them. This unique placement course will give you a close-up look at the realities and practicalities of leading a battlefield tour.

The Three-Day battlefield guide field modules are designed to offer a balanced mix of the theoretical and practical aspects of planning, administering, and leading a battlefield tour.

The course syllabus is structured around a visit to a battlefield. Clients will gain first-hand understanding of the logistics, health and safety responsibilities of the workload managed by the professional battlefield guide on tour. A series of exercises and syndicate workshops will also highlight the widely differing needs, and customer care expectations of the broad spectrum of battlefield tourists that you may encounter.

The time spent on the battlefield, usually in and around the Ypres salient or on the Somme, will allow course members to gain important experience in planning group travel and the challenges of conducting a tour around a battlefield in line with a commercial tour operators' itinerary or under the auspices of sole trader status managing a bespoke tour.

Additionally, the visit will provide an informed insight into local facilities, popular historical sites and tourist infrastructure.

Cost - Costing for these courses is subject to seasonal variation in travel charges and local hotel rates. A no obligation quotation can be produced upon request - there are no hidden extras in our price.

This is a residential course involving travel outside the UK.

The Ypres Salient Three-Day Course Cost: £750

The Somme Three-Day Course Cost: £750

The Three-Day Somme Field Module gives the prospective Battlefield Guide a chance to get to know the ground, consider different methods of presenting the campaign narrative and share ideas with fellow guides from a host of different backgrounds.

There is so much more to running a good Battlefield Tour than knowing the history and being able to present that narrative in an engaging and accurate way. The Field Module will get you into the mindset of the client and help you to start thinking as a Tour Manager. During the course of the day we will consider a number of customer service related scenarios that will further enhance your understanding.
