'Time spent on reconnaissance is seldom wasted...'A well known military
maxim that is as relevant to the service leaver when resettling as it is to the soldier on the battlefield.
We believe, that before considering employment in the battlefield tour industry it is essential to invest some time in gaining an understanding of the industry before committing to becoming a guide.
This course is designed to enable our clients to make an informed decision on whether or not working as a battlefield guide will suit them. This unique placement course will give you a close-up look at the realities and practicalities of leading a battlefield tour.
The three-day battlefield guide continuation course is designed to offer a balanced mix of the theoretical and practical aspects of planning, administering, and leading a battlefield tour.
The course syllabus is divided evenly between the classroom and a visit to a battlefield. Clients will gain first-hand understanding of the logistics, health and safety responsibilities of the workload managed by the professional battlefield guide on tour.
A series of exercises and syndicate workshops will also highlight the widely differing needs, and customer care expectations of the broad spectrum of battlefield tourists that you may encounter.
The time spent on the battlefield, usually in and around the Ypres salient or on the Somme, will allow course members to gain important experience in planning group travel. You will also gain insight into the challenges of conducting a tour around a battlefield in line with a commercial tour operators itinerary.
Additionally, the visit will provide an informed insight into local facilities, popular historical sites and tourist infrastructure.
This is a residential course involving travel outside the UK.
